I am a BIG Rush fan! On May 1st Rush released a new CD titled "Snakes & Arrows". Like a lot previous Rush CDs the first time you listen to it you don't know if you like it or not. Keep listening and give it a few days. I really think SnA is a great CD and is one of their best efforts.
Rush has been around for over 30 years. That is one of the things I like about them. They have lasting power. Rush has a very loyal following of fans. Their music is highly technical, exciting, emotional and at times controversial. Rush is extremely worthy of being inducted into the music hall of fame and yet they have been slighted by the hall of fame board.
A lot of people don't really like rush at all or they say they don't like the singer's shrilly voice. I can understand that to a certain extent, but they are missing out on what I think is music that Mozart would appreciate.
It's hard to describe in words what Rush has to offer in terms of music as music is a highly subjective medium. It depends on your upbringing, your personal taste, what you have listened to in the past and a host of other varied elements.
Like I mentioned above their music is highly technical. This is in terms of what they write about as well as the actual music. When I was younger I played the saxophone in elementary and high school. This gives me an appreciation of musician's and their achievements. The members of Rush in my opinion are some of the best musicians ever to walk the planet.
I think a lot of music that is heard on the radio these days is really bad. It's all so commercial, unoriginal and just plain awful. Rush is a band that writes music for the music, they write original music that sounds like nothing else on the market, they actually play their instruments and sing in concert and they sound good doing it.
"So much stuff without Style, So much Style without Substance, It's hard to recognize the real thing, It comes around once in a while." This is one of my favorite lines from Rush and I think it somes up my opinion quite nicely. Rush is real, their music has style and substance and I hope they continue to enlighten their fans and make new fans.
